Mineral wool prods. with hydrophilic properties - by treating mineral wool with mixt. of PF resin binder, nitrogen-carbonyl cpd., aq. acrylic] resin micro-sol and specified surfactant
A process for the prodn. of mineral wool prods. esp. sheets, with hydrophilic properties (I), by applying a hydrophilising agent (II) to the unravelled fibres from a mineral melt. (a) (II) in a mixt. of a PF resin-based binder (A), a water-soluble nitrogen-carbonyl cpd. (B), an aq. microsol of an acrylic resin (C) and a mixt. of COOH gp.-contg. fatty acid condensn prods. with organic phosphate esters (D), (b) the hydrophilised fibre is laid down as strip, (c) the fibres and the adhering (II) are subjected to heat treatment and (d) the strip is processed further to the required prods. (I). Also claimed are prods. (I) , and hydrophilising agent (II) . USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful as a fertiliser and growth substrate for plants, esp. for growing plants on roofs, by covering the roof with sheets of (I), putting in the seeds or plants and possibly adding a protective layer, esp. of humus etc. (claimed). (I) is produced with good mechanical strength, using a hydrophilising agent which promotes plant growth and is compatible with the process water.
