PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus capable of efficiently generating and displaying image data of a desired portion from a smaller quantity of image data among the image data acquired by an image diagnostic apparatus such as an X-ray CT apparatus through the use of an appropriate resolution and display method.SOLUTION: The image display apparatus 34 comprises a reference image display unit 58, setting units 56, 55, an image generating unit 57 and a tomographic image display unit 54. The reference image display unit 58 displays a reference image on the display unit 54. The setting units 56, 55 setup a display range of tomographic images in a first direction and either of a number of the tomographic images in the first direction to be displayed and a thickness of the tomographic images in the first direction to three-dimensional image data including a plurality of pieces of slice image data in accordance with instruction information from an input unit 53 and the reference image. The image generating unit 57 generates either of the tomographic images having the set thickness in the first direction and the set number of the tomographic images in the first direction using a plurality of pieces of slice image data in the display range.
