To provide a cryopreservation apparatus permitting easy work for preliminary freezing and having few risks of mistake of ampoules and rise of temperature at the time of moving.
SOLUTION: The cryopreservation apparatus 1 includes a housing part 1a in which a preliminary freezing means 3 for the preliminary freezing of an ampoule and a cryopreservation container 2 for cryopreserving the ampoule are housed and a work space 1b communicating with the upper part of the housing part 1a. The work space 1b is filled with DRY gas to have positive pressure. In the work space 1b and the work of inserting/extracting the ampoule into/out of the preliminary freezing means 3, the work of inserting/extracting the ampoule into/out of the cryopreservation container 2 and delivery of the ampoule between the preliminary freezing means 2 and the cryopreservation container 3 are performed. The cryopreservation apparatus 1 with the above characteristics is adopted.
