The syringe assembly includes a syringe that has an integrated liquid dispensing device to allow dispensing of the liquid contents and a vial adapter for telescoping into a vial that contains the liquid contents. The vial adapter is initially attached to the syringe and is intended to be manually removed therefrom to expose the integrated liquid dispensing device. The syringe includes a flow control member having an initial flow path position for filling the syringe with liquid content from the drug bottle and a final flow path position for allowing administration of the liquid content. By removing the vial adapter from the syringe, the flow control member is pressed from its initial flow path position to its final flow path position.
