PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a &beta-secretase inhibitor having high safety and excellent inhibitory action on &beta-secretase activity.
SOLUTION: The &beta-secretase inhibitor includes an essential oil component containing at least one kind of functional groups selected from the group consisting of carbon-carbon double bonds, carbonyl groups, ether bonds and ester bonds in the molecule or an essential oil containing the essential oil component as an active ingredient. The prophylactic or therapeutic agent for senile dementia or Alzheimers dementia contains the inhibitor.
