PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cytophilic material which ensures both biological functions and mechanical properties near to those of bone tissues in living bodies, and to simply provide a bone-like transplant using the cytophilic material.

SOLUTION: An amide derivative represented by the general formula: A-(Sp)-B or B-(Sp)-A-(Sp)-B (A is an amide bond-containing portion having a specific NR1CO structure which may form a ring capable of binding to Sp or B Sp is a spacer portion which may be present or absent B is at least one substrate-binding portion selected from the group consisting of specific structure silyl groups capable of binding to Sp or A and also capable of binding to polar group-containing substrates, and phosphate esters and phosphate ester salts having specific structures). The surface-modifying agent comprising the amide derivative. The cytophilic material obtained by treating the surface of the polar group-having substrate with the surface-modifying agent.
