The invention concerns a method for preserving placental whole blood for the short term, in particular just after removal. The method comprises the steps of: introducing the placental whole blood into an air barrier storage bag, and storing said bag containing the placental blood at a temperature higher than 0°C and lower than 40°C. Moreover, the invention concerns a system of bags for implementing said method. The system comprises a collecting bag (1) in fluid communication, via a first tube (2) combined with an inlet opening of the collecting bag, with at least one extraction needle (3), and an air barrier storage bag (4), said bag being in fluid communication with the collecting bag.
