The present invention relates to a composition for inhibiting growth of cancer cells comprising an extract of spirulina as an effective component. The extract of spirulina and phycocyanin isolated therefrom increase activity of caspase-3 and induce apoptosis of cancer cells, thereby inhibiting growth of cancer cells.
