It has been found that administering 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 to ruminants helps to reduce the need for supplemental inorganic Ca in the diets while maintaining milk production or growth performance.. Thus the aspect of this invention is a method of promoting Calcium absorption in ruminants, comprising administering a sufficient amount of 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 to the animal.Selon linvention, ladministration de 25-hydroxy-vitamine D3 à des ruminants permet de réduire le besoin en Ca inorganique de supplémentation dans leur régime alimentaire, tout en maintenant leur performance de croissance ou leur production de lait.
