PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fundus photographing apparatus which maintains alignment of an eye and a photographing unit by suppressing the generation of a flare.SOLUTION: A fundus photographing apparatus includes: a photographing unit which comprises a fundus illuminating optical system illuminating the fundus of the eye, a visual target presentation optical system for projecting a fixation target for guiding a visual line and an examination target for performing a visual function examination of the retina onto the fundus of the eye, and a fundus photographing optical system comprising an imaging element for obtaining an fundus photographing image by photographing the fundus of the eye an alignment means for aligning the photographing unit and the eye on the basis of a predetermined alignment criterion and a flare extraction means for extracting a flare included in the fundus photographing image taken by the imaging element, by image processing.
