Intranasal insulin is beneficial for the treatment of Alzheimers disease and other neurologic disorders. But commercial insulin preparations use metacresol, phenol, and other preservatives for chemical stabilization. Metacresol in particular has multiple toxic effects when administered long term, especially intranasal. These effects include rhinitis and nosebleeds. The present invention teaches the use of intranasal insulin not preserved with meta-cresol, phenol or other excipients for the treatment of Alzheimers disease and other neurologic disorders.
