Devices and methods for occluding the left atrial appendage (LAA) are described. The device excludes LAA from the bloodstream to prevent blood from forming a clot in LAA and subsequently causing embolism, particularly in patients with atrial fibrillation. The implantable device is delivered into the LAA via transcatheter delivery and secured within the LAA. The implant includes an expandable compliant frame and an expandable and conformable tubular foam body carried by the frame. The device may have an antithrombogenic cover at the proximal end and an antithrombogenic coating on the foam body. The frame may have recapture struts that are inclined radially outward in a distal direction from the central hub. The frame may have axially extending side wall struts and adjacent pairs of side wall struts may be joined at one or more vertices. The anchor extends from the frame and engages the tissue.
