The present invention provides compositions and methods for binding and inhibiting renalase. In one embodiment, the renalase binding molecule inhibits renalase activity. Thus, in diseases and conditions where reduced renalase activity is beneficial, such inhibitory renalase binding molecules act as therapeutic agents.
