PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exchange easily a compression plate.SOLUTION: A mammography apparatus according to an embodiment comprises: a photography platform a compression plate and a holding mechanism. The photography platform has a photographing surface on which breasts of a subject are mounted. The compression plate compresses the breasts while sandwiching the breasts between it and the photographing surface. The holding mechanism detachably holds the compression plate. The compression plate comprises a first temporary fastening part on a held part which is held on the holding mechanism. The holding mechanism comprises a second temporary fastening part and a fixing mechanism. The second temporary fastening part is provided on a position facing the first temporary fastening part when the compression plate is held, and temporarily fastens the first temporary fastening part.
