The invention relates to a method for treating images to be viewed by patients with visual pathologies and a device configured to carry out said method, which comprises capturing video images with one or more digital cameras, thereby obtaining pixel signals defined by RGB values of the frames of the video images and substituting, by means of a processing unit, the RGB values of said signals with R'G'B' values according to a table of equivalence that, based on the possible RGB colours distinguishable in a pixel, returns R'G'B' values corresponding to a colour which spectral energy is reduced with respect to that of the original RGB colour, the reduction by a greater magnitude being for higher frequency light waves and by a smaller magnitude being for those of lower frequency from the general perspective of the visible spectrum. Lastly, the method comprises a stage of transmitting the modified-colour images on one or more digital screens.
