Disclosed is an intraluminal gastrointestinal (GI) device that is placed at the time of surgery to protect a freshly constructed GI anastomosis, GI staple-line, or the like. For the esophagus and stomach, the device covers the esophagus, stomach, and anastomosis/staple-line. For the pancreas or biliary duct, the device covers the biliary duct, pancreatic duct, and small bowel. For the colon and rectum, the device is a self expanding protective barrier that covers the anal canal, the anus, and the colon or rectum, approximately 18 cm proximal to the anus. These devices provide a waterproof barrier between the gastrointestinal content and the mucosa of the GI tract and the newly constructed anastomosis. Additionally, the design of the device is made to prevent migration within the gastrointestinal tract and facilitate removal of the device.La présente invention concerne un dispositif gastro-intestinal (GI) intraluminal placé au moment de la chirurgie pour protéger une anastomose gastro-intestinale récemment réalisée, une ligne d'agrafes gastro-intestinales, ou analogue. Pour l'œsophage et l'estomac, ledit dispositif recouvre l'œsophage, l'estomac et l'anastomose/la ligne d'agrafes. Pour le pancréas ou le canal biliaire, ledit dispositif recouvre le canal biliaire, le canal pancréatique et l'intestin grêle. Pour le côlon et le rectum, le dispositif est une barrière protectrice auto-extensible qui recouvre le canal anal, l'anus et le côlon ou le rectum, approximativement à 18 cm de l'anus de manière proximale. Ces dispositifs constituent une barrière imperméable entre le contenu gastro-intestinal et la muqueuse du tractus gastro-intestinal ainsi que l'anastomose récemment réalisée. En outre, la conception dudit dispositif permet d'empêcher la migration dans le tractus gastro-intestinal et de faciliter le retrait du dispositif.
