The system includes at least one milking station (la, 1b, lc) adapted to identify an animal in the milking station automatically and to milk the animal automatically. The arrangement includes a milk constituent analysing unit (5) and a control device. The milk constituent analysing device is capable of analysing milk from the milking station with respect to the specific constituent. The control device is (9) communicatively connected to the milking station and to the milk constituent analysing unit. The control device is also arranged to retrieve an analysing appropriateness parameter for each of the animals milked by the milking station indicating an appropriateness of analysing milk from the animal with respect to a specific constituent. The control device is arranged to control the milk constituent analysing unit (5) to analyse milk from the milking station with respect to the specific constituent if the time lapsed since the milk constituent analysing unit last analysed milk exceeds a threshold time period, irrespective of the analysing appropriateness parameter for the animal milked by that milking station.
