The sheath 10 for creating a sufficiently sealed access to the interior of an animal or human blood vessel comprises a base sheath 20 having a tubular body defining a passage channel 22. The base sheath 20 is configured to be inserted into the blood vessel through the blood vessel opening. The wall of the tubular body of the base sheath has a through channel 27. This channel extends into the wall from the distal end 20a to the proximal end 20b. The channel 27 can exist separately from the passage channel 22 of the base sheath, or can form a lateral extension of the passage channel 22 at least at the distal end.
