A hydrophobic filter (1) for filtering an airflow (A) or another gaseous flow in a medical application comprises a housing (13) encompassing a filter chamber (130), an inlet port (10) arranged on the housing (13) and forming an inlet opening (100), an outlet port (11) arranged on the housing (13) and forming an outlet opening (110), and a hydrophobic structure (12) extending along a plane of extension (E) and separating the filter chamber (130) into an inlet chamber (133) and an outlet chamber (134). The inlet opening (100) opens into the inlet chamber (133) and the outlet opening (110) opens into the outlet chamber (134). Herein, the outlet opening (110) opens into the outlet chamber (134) at a first location when viewed along the plane of extension (E) and the inlet opening (100) opens into the inlet chamber (130) at a second location different from the first location when viewed along the plane of extension (E).
