PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for increasing a signal-to-noise ratio while appropriately adjusting the gain of an amplifier according to the situation of a subject in photoacoustic tomography.SOLUTION: A biological information imaging apparatus to be used includes: a detector for detecting acoustic waves generated from a light absorber inside a subject which absorbs light and converting them to detection signals a gain controller for determining the gain of the amplifier corresponding to the strength of the detection signals the amplifier for amplifying the detection signals by the determined gain a number-of-times determination part for determining the number of times of addition of the amplified detection signals and a signal processor for averaging the amplified detection signals by the number of times of addition to generate image data.
