PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device and an imaging method capable of blocking out light or suppressing light transmission on an area almost other than a measurement object on the basis of a contour of the measurement object even when the shape of the measurement object is complicated and has large individual differences like a palm.SOLUTION: An imaging device includes a light source 10 for generating illumination light for illuminating a subject 12, a light transmission control part 5 for controlling the transmissivity of the illumination light from the light source according to an area, and an imaging part 3 for taking a transmission light image of the subject formed transmitting through the light transmission control part and the subject 12. The light transmission control part generates a light transmission control pattern based on a contour of the subject.
