The device comes in the shape of a frame (U) with vertical walls which are pushed into the soil (C, E) with their lower edges, surrounding the plants (P) to be protected. A flanged rim (R) at the upper edge is equipped with a downwards pointing elastic segment (K) which holds a strip of foam rubber (S, T). The strip (S, T) can be soaked in a strong saline solution before it is inserted into the gap between flange (R) and elastic segment (K). The slugs do not want to get in contact with the salt and stop before climbing across the walls of the protection frame (U). The salt dispenser (S, T) can also be attached to a flower pot or plant container.
