PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heart rate meter capable of calculating a heart rate with simpler processing as compared with that of a conventional art regardless of the attaching direction of the heart rate meter with respect to a breast.SOLUTION: A heart rate meter comprises: a heart rate sensor for acquiring an electrocardiographic waveform of a user when being attached to a breast of the user and a control unit which calculates a heart rate on the basis of the electrocardiographic waveform and inverts the acquired electrocardiographic waveform. The electrocardiographic waveform acquired by the heart rate sensor includes either of a first mode electrocardiographic waveform including an R wave having a peak on the high voltage side and a second mode electrocardiographic waveform including an R wave having a peak on the low voltage side. The heart rate meter calculates a heart rate when an electrocardiographic waveform includes the first mode electrocardiographic waveform.
