An injection device comprises a locking mechanism (171-173) between a syringecarrier (127) and an end cap (111) of the injection device. The cap is formed insuch a way to inhibit movement of the syringe carrier and syringe towards an exitaperture of the injection device when the drive has not been removed from the injectiondevice. On removal of the cap, the locking mechanism is no longer so engaged andthe syringe and syringe carrier can move towards the exit capture. This assistsin preventing damage to the syringe prior to actuation of the injection device.
