PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric working machine which can be driven, only when an expansible pipe is placed at a prescribed position, and can be compacted, when carried or stored.SOLUTION: An electric working machine 1 having a fixed pipe 40 fixed to a housing 11 holding a battery 2, a slidably held movable pipe 80, a handle 41 disposed on the fixed pipe 40, a driving portion 151 disposed at the tip of the movable pipe 80 and receiving a motor, and a cutting blade 155 to be rotated, is characterized by disposing, in a connection portion 50, a detection means for detecting whether the movable pipe 80 is placed at a prescribed extended position from the fixed pipe 40 or not, and permitting the rotation of the motor, only when the movable pipe 80 is extended to a prescribed extended position from the fixed pipe 40. When the movable pipe 80 is switched from a non-extended position to an extended position in a state that a trigger switch 44 is pulled, the rotation inhibition of the motor is continued until the trigger switch is once released.
