Methods and devices for separating an implanted object, such as a lead for a mechanical pacemaker or a cardioverter defibrillator, from tissue surrounding such object in a patients vasculature system. The methods and devices comprise a means for applying tension to the object at the working end of a catheter to reduce the catheters likelihood of bending or kinking the lead during extraction.
