An improved process for the preparation of prasugrel compound of structural formula-I and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof is provided. The process comprises treating a compound of structural formula IX with trifluoromethane sulfonic acid to get a compound of structural formula X and then converting compound of structural formula X into prasugrel compound of structural formula-I and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
