A method of automatically evaluating resection accuracy, is provided. Themethod includes preoperatively obtaininga first image of a volume of patient tissue using an imaging modalityconfigured according to a scanning parameter, and storing thescanning parameter. An identifier of a target region corresponding to a targetportion of the volume is received and stored inassociation with the first image. A second image is obtained of a resectedtissue sample from the volume, using the imaging modalityconfigured according to the scanning parameter. Based on a comparison of thefirst image and the second image, a determination ismade whether the entire target region is represented in the second image. Themethod includes controlling an output device topresent an indication, based on the determination, of whether the tissuesample contains the entire target portion.
