The present invention relates to a multi-basket blood clot capturing apparatus including a distal basket connected to a wire. The distal basket can be positioned at a distal portion of a blood clot, and can be operated to capture the distal portion of the blood clot. A proximal basket can be connected to a hypotube axially connected to the wire to be slid. The proximal basket can be positioned at a proximal portion of the blood clot and can be operated to capture the proximal portion of the blood clot. A cage can be formed between the proximal and distal baskets around a plurality of portions of the blood clot to capture the blood clot. Sliding the wire in a distal direction or a microcatheter in a proximal direction with respect to the blood clot, causes the distal basket to move from a folded state to an expanded state.
