1. A hardening local anesthetic composition for use in a method of treating a neuropathic pain in a subject, comprising: applying a layer of a hardening local anesthetic composition to a skin surface of a person experiencing a neuropathic pain, said hardening local anesthetic composition includes a local anesthetic, water and polymer, and before application on the indicated surface of the skin is in a semi-solid state； holding said layer of said composition on said skin for a period of time sufficient to allow said layer of said composition to transdermally deliver local anesthetic to the subject and to form a cohesive soft layer after evaporating enough water from said layer of said composition, where the local anesthetic composition is hardening continues to deliver the local anesthetic to the subject until substantially all of the water present in the formulation has evaporated and the delivery of a local anesthetic will not stop or decline to a level that does not have a therapeutic effect, and where a hardening local anesthetic will relieve said neuropathic pain within approximately 45 minutes after application to the skin surface. 2. A hardening local anesthetic composition for use according to claim 1, wherein the skin surface is directly above the area of neuropathic pain.
