This invention relates to a process for the preparation of an edible film from soy whey comprising the steps of hydrating dehulled soyabean and filtering the hydrated soyabeans to obtain soyamilk as the filtrate, boiling the soyamilk to remove antinutritional factors therefrom, adding citric acid thereto, and incubating the same to obtain curdled soyamilk, subjecting the curdled soyamilk to centrifugation and collecting the whey as the supernatant, homogenizing the whey with acetone to obtain a slurry followed by centrifugation of the slurry to obtain a residue, allowing the acetone to evaporate from the residue, dissolving the residue in water followed by addition of a plasticizer thereto, to form the film forming solution, adjusting the pH of the film forming solution to 7 to 12 and forming the film therefrom.
