The present invention relates to a dry composition that, when added with an aqueous medium, forms a substantially homogeneous paste suitable for use in hemostatic treatment. The paste forms naturally when liquid is added, i.e. mechanical stirring is not required to form the paste. The invention further relates to a method for preparing the dry composition, a paste made from the dry composition, and the use of the paste for medical and surgical purposes.
