The measuring device comprises:- a housing (10, 11, 12), which is configured to be inserted into the vagina of an animal and to be removed therefrom after use,- sensing means (25) for measuring at least one physiological parameter of the animal, the sensing means being arranged at least partially in the housing (9),- transmitting means (13, 25) for a wireless transmission of sensing means data based on the measured physiological parameter to a receiver (50), and- retaining means (15), which are configured to be inserted into the vagina and to retain the housing therein.
