PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ophthalmic composition decreasing stimulative feeling generated in the coexistence of menthol and a surfactant even if the composition has low viscosity (viscosity at 20°C is <3.0 mPa s), high in safety, improving continuation of such coolness as giving comfortable feeling, and suitably usable in such conditions that the patient keratoconjunctival surface is more sensitive to external stimulation than ordinary.

SOLUTION: The ophthalmic composition contains dextran in addition to the menthol and the surfactant.
