The present disclosure relates to keratoprosthesis apparatuses and methods of manufacturing keratoprosthesis apparatuses. The keratoprosthesis apparatus includes a circular backplate including a central aperture extending through the backplate from a face of the backplate to a posterior surface of the backplate. The circular backplate has a dome shape and comprises a plurality of spaced apart elongated slits extending radially outwardly from a central portion of the backplate.
