An injectable stimulation device is described which produces an electrode stimulation signal for an implanted electrode array having stimulating electrodes. The filter bank preprocessor processes the input audio audio signal to generate a bandpass signal corresponding to an associated band of audio frequencies, respectively. The signal envelope module calculates the corresponding signal envelope for each bandpass signal.
