PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus capable of easily acquiring a desired sectional image, and a magnetic resonance imaging method.SOLUTION: The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus according to one embodiment includes a determination unit 26c, a change unit, an imaging unit, and a generation unit. The determination unit 26c determines whether or not an imaging range including a desired sectional image is within a limit range of imaging. As a result of the determination, when it is determined to exceed the limit range, the change unit changes the setup of the imaging range to that within a limit range. The imaging unit executes imaging on the basis of the setup after the change. The generation unit generates the desired sectional image from the data obtained by the imaging.
