A pharmaceutical composition comprising an active substance selected from the group consisting of imiquimod (1-(2-methylpropyl)-1 H -imidazo[4,5- c ]quinolin-4-amine), sotirimod(2-methyl-1-(2-methylpropyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-c][1,5]naphthyridin-4-amine) and resiquimod (4-amino-±,±-dimethyl-2-ethoxymethyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]quinoline-1-ethanol), that is stable to sterilization and suitable for topical application directly to tissue sites where the dermis has been breached, and has been sterilized, packaged compositions that have been sterilized, and methods of sterilizing these compositions are disclosed.
