The present invention provides an apparatus for authenticating a service pass and a method thereof. The apparatus comprises: an optical sensor unit generating a sensing signal when a holder of a service pass is located within a sensing distance； a pass right information acquiring unit acquiring pass right information defining a usage right of the service pass using contact or non-contact communication； a bio-information detecting unit detecting bio-information of the holder； and a control unit activating the pass right information acquiring unit and the bio-information detecting unit according to the generated sensing signal and comparing the pass right information with the bio-information to check whether the holder is a legitimate holder of the service pass.본 발명은 서비스 이용권 인증 장치 및 방법을 제안한다. 서비스 이용권 인증 장치는 감지거리 내 서비스 이용권의 소지자가 위치하면 감지 신호를 생성하는 광학 센서부； 접촉식 또는 비접촉식 통신을 이용하여 상기 서비스 이용권의 이용 권한을 정의하는 이용 권한 정보를 획득하는 이용권 권한 정보 획득부； 상기 소지자의 생체 정보를 탐지하는 생체 정보 탐지부； 및 상기 생성된 감지 신호에 따라 상기 이용권 권한 정보 획득부와 상기 생체 정보 탐지부를 활성화 하고, 상기 이용 권한 정보와 상기 생체 정보를 비교하여 상기 서비스 이용권의 정당한 소지자가 맞는지 여부를 확인하는 제어부； 를 포함한다.
