The present invention discloses a method to treat and slow the progression of myopia in children. The treatment is by administration of selected anticholinergic zwitterions that are administered in ophthalmic formulations for extended release of up to several years. The anticholinergic zwitterions are the inner salts of pure diastereromeric compounds of 3-(2-cyclopentyl-2-phenyl-2-hydroxyacetoxy) -1- (carboxymethyl)-1-methylpyrrolidinium.L'invention concerne une méthode destinée à traiter et à ralentir la progression de la myopie chez les enfants. Le traitement selon l'invention consiste à administrer des zwitterions anticholinergiques sélectionné dans des préparations ophtalmiques à libération prolongée allant jusqu'à plusieurs années. Les zwitterions anticholinergiques sont les sels internes de composés diastéréomères purs de 3-(2-cyclopentyl-2-phényl -2-hydroxyacétoxy)-1-(carboxyméthyl)-1-méthylpyrrolidinium.
