An agricultural baler (10) includes a main bale chamber (26) having a pair of opposed side walls (40). Each side wall (40) includes a plunger slot arrangement defining a plunger slot (42). Each plunger slot (42) has opposite ends (54) and is open at both an inside adjacent to a plunger and an opposite outside. The plunger (30) is reciprocally disposed within the main bale chamber (26), and includes a pair of opposed sides (46) and at least one roller (44) extending laterally outward from each side (46). Each roller (44) is positioned within a respective plunger slot (42). The baler (10) is characterized by a pair of plunger slot covers (52), with each cover (52) only partially covering a respective outside of a corresponding plunger slot (42) such that each end (54) of the plunger slot (42) is uncovered.
