PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the new subject gene comprising a DNA containing a specific amino acid sequence and encoding a cellulose-synthetic enzyme complex, and usable for production of the enzyme for synthesizing a cellulose useful as a raw material for a paper pulp, a raw material for a fiber, a roughage, a raw material for fuel or the like. SOLUTION: This gene is the new one encoding a protein substantially comprising an amino acid sequence of formula I or II, and composing a cellulose synthetic enzyme complex. The gene is useful for production of the enzyme for synthesizing a cellulose important for a raw material for a paper pulp, a raw material for a fiber, a roughage, a raw material for fuel or the like. The DNA is obtained by preparing a mRNA from an epicotyl of Phaseolus angularis, synthesizing a cDNA by using the obtained mRNA as a template, and making a cDNA library by a conventional method, infecting Escherichia coli with the obtained cDNA library, growing the infected Escherichia coli on an agar medium reacting the grown product with a primary antibody against the cellulose synthetic enzyme complex, and the secondary antibody labeled with an alkali phosphotase, and screening the labeled product by detecting the labeled product.
