In certain embodiments, the present invention is related to a pharmaceutical composition comprising one or more active pharmaceutical ingredients suitable for vaginal route of administration, one or more polymeric excipients having a dual property of acting as a binder as well as a bioadhesive material, one or more sugar alcohols or saccharides, and one or more disintegrants.
