One aspect of the invention provides a light source including: a housing including at least one wall defining an aperture and one or more lasers positioned within the housing such that each of the lasers is positioned at an angle with respect to the axis and generates a beam focused on a common focal point along the axis, within the housing, and offset from the aperture. The aperture is adapted and configured to receive an optical fiber along an axis. Another aspect of the invention provides a light source and an instrument including an optical fiber.
