A connector (22) for a taut wire fence system is disclosed that is able to detect a change in force applied to the wire. The connector has a rigid main body member made in two parts (24, 25) having a first wire attachment at one end and a second wire or end support mount attachment at the opposite end. A sensor (37), configured to measure a change in a dimension of the main body member, is located between the first and the second attachments so that they are aligned and in substantially the same plane. The first attachment is electrically insulated from other parts of the connector.
