Methods and compositions useful for reducing loss of muscle function caused by bone metastasis in a subject with cancer. In certain embodiments, the methods of the present invention include administering to a cancer patient compositions that include a therapeutically or prophylactically effective amount of one or more inhibitors of TGFbeta signaling, one or more benzothiazepine derivatives, or combinations thereof.
