The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating atopic dermatitis containing a Centella asiatica extract and astaxanthin. The composition containing the Centella asiatica extract and astaxanthin ameliorates symptoms of dermatitis on ears and the back caused by atopic dermatitis in a mouse model having atopic dermatitis, and an expression level of immunoglobulin (Ig) E and inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1β in the blood is markedly decreased compared to those treated with the Centella asiatica extract or astaxanthin alone. Accordingly, it is expected that the use of the composition containing the Centella asiatica extract and astaxanthin can contribute to development of excellent agents for preventing and treating atopic dermatitis.본 발명은 병풀(Centella asiatica) 추출물 및 아스타잔틴을 포함하는 아토피 피부염 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 병풀 추출물 및 아스타잔틴을 포함하는 조성물이 아토피 피부염 마우스 모델에서 아토피 피부염에 유도된 귀 및 등의 피부염 증상이 개선되고, IgE와 염증성 사이토카인인 TNF-α, IL-6 및 IL-1β의 혈중 내 발현량이 병풀 추출물 또는 아스타잔틴을 각각 단독으로 처리한 것에 비해 현저히 감소하는 것을 확인함으로써, 본 발명의 병풀 추출물 및 아스타잔틴을 포함하는 조성물을 이용하여 우수한 아토피 피부염 예방 및 치료제의 개발이 기대된다.
