A method of performing regional citrate anticoagulant dialysis of a patient'sblood includes flowing blood fromand back to the patient through an extracorporeal circuit including a dialyzerhaving semi-pelmeable dialysis membranes and adialysate chamber surrounding the membranes. The method further includesflowing a dialysate containing calcium and citratethrough the dialysate chamber of the dialyzer and introducing citrate into thepatient's blood upstream of the dialyzer, whereby thepatient's blood is dialyzed. The method can further include predicting theconcentration of systemic ionized calcium in the bloodof the patient at any point in the dialysis treatment or post-dialysis, suchas by a mathematical model. The method can furtherinclude statistically correcting the preliminary predicted postdialysisconcentration of systemic ionized calcium in the patient's bloodto provide a final predicted post-dialysis systemic ionized calciumconcentration.
