This invention relates to a medical device having a coating that includes a first layer comprising poly(ethylene oxide) having an average molecular weight of from 80,000 to 600,000, and a second layer comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone. The first layer is substantially covered by the second layer and the second layer at least partially interpenetrates the first layer. The coating is provided by applying the first coating layer followed by curing, and then applying the second layer followed by curing. The invention also relates to the coating itself and a method for providing the coating.
