PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cell death inhibitor of a nerve cell usable for effectively inhibiting the cell death of the nerve cell, to provide a method for inhibiting the cell death by using the cell death inhibitor, and further to provide a nerve cell achieving the cell death tolerance imparted by applying the cell death inhibitor, and a method for producing the nerve cell.SOLUTION: The cell death inhibitor of the nerve cell contains chondroitin sulfate having 30-100% content of &DeltaDi-diSE determined by disaccharide analysis as an active ingredient. Preferably, the cell death inhibitor of the nerve cell contains chondroitin sulfate E as an active ingredient. The method for inhibiting the cell death by using the inhibitor, and the method for producing the nerve cell achieving the cell death tolerance are provided.
